System Admin DBA
DataStaff, Inc. is in need of a System Admin DBA for a long-term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients in Charlotte, NC.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide database support for Charlotte Water’s ICS databases running in a Linux environment. This includes deployment, configuration, monitoring, patching, backup & recovery, HA/DR.
- Remediate current and future issues with the database environment including performance, space utilization, execution errors, and access violations.
- Protect and secure ICS data. Ensure databases are backed up and restorable. Ensure Disaster Recovery procedures are up to date and routinely tested. Participate in scheduled DR exercises.
- Acts as subject matter expert for server virtualization (VMware), server data protection, database management and disaster recovery capabilities by implementing and managing VMware and Veeam server, data and application replication technologies.
- Responsible for configuring, maintaining, and administering physical and virtual servers, Windows Server and Ubuntu Server operating systems, installing hardware and software upgrades and patches, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Administers and maintains operating system patching systems such as Ubuntu Landscape and Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
- Evaluates and implements operating system upgrades. Assists in integrating new applications and technologies into the current server architecture.
- Analyzes issues and implements solutions to improve existing configurations and prevent downtime.
- Performs system administration, including account management, storage management and performance tuning.
- Monitors and responds to any ICS server issues. Resolves trouble tickets, responds to alerts for servers and replaces failed devices or components.
- Monitors system capacities and makes recommendations for system enhancement and expansion.
- Implements and manages monitoring, logging and alerting solutions for ICS servers.
- Creates and maintains technical documentation to include technical specifications, server architecture drawings, scopes of work, user procedures and processes, and user training materials.
- Works with ICS Technology and Charlotte Water stakeholders to plan and implement new data sharing infrastructure.
- Stays abreast of current technology trends, developments and best practices; makes recommendations for enhancements.
- Assists in establishing and implementing short and long-term goals related to ICS technology, providing recommendation and cost estimates regarding upgrades.
- Reviews all proposed upgrades and designs of system components for applicability and compatibility with existing systems and standards.
- Creates, maintains and executes procedures to collect, monitor, and assess ICS performance data as part of a preventive maintenance program.
- Acts as liaison between the I&T Department and Charlotte Water Maintenance and ICS Technology in matters related to ICS and server technology.
- Works with I&T to ensure compliance with City standards and represents Charlotte Water ICS needs.
- Analyzes, extracts, combines, interprets, and summarizes data from various sources to generate analytical reports in tabular and/or graphical form for operational, management, or executive ICS server related decisions.
- Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in the design and configuration of a variety of databases and operating systems, including virtualization.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MariaDB administration and management
- Veeam Backup administration and management
- VMware vSphere administration and management
- Python scripting experience
- General knowledge of water and wastewater operations
- ICS Human Machine Interface (HMI) development, implementation and support
