GIS Administrator
DataStaff, Inc is seeking a GIS Administrator for a long-term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients located in the Raleigh, NC area.

Job Description:
An innovative public-sector organization is seeking an experienced Enterprise GIS Systems Administrator to support and enhance its enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. This position serves as the primary technical lead for GIS platform administration, enterprise geodatabase management, and integration of GIS technologies with business-critical applications.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of enterprise GIS infrastructure while supporting advanced data management, automation, and system integration initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain enterprise GIS infrastructure, including GIS servers, web portals, data stores, and supporting components.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and security, proactively identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, and platform enhancements.
- Manage licensing, user provisioning, authentication, and role-based security configurations.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams to support server environments, networking requirements, and cloud-based deployments.
- Administer enterprise geodatabases hosted within relational database management systems.
- Manage versioned editing environments, including version creation, reconciliation, conflict management, and posting workflows.
- Perform routine database maintenance activities such as compression, index rebuilding, performance optimization, and data integrity monitoring.
- Support GIS analysts and editors utilizing enterprise editing workflows.
- Monitor replication, synchronization, and database connectivity processes to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Design, develop, and maintain integrations between GIS platforms and enterprise business systems.
- Create automated workflows and data-processing solutions utilizing Python and GIS automation frameworks.
- Develop ETL processes to facilitate data exchange between spatial and non-spatial systems.
- Build and support API-based integrations using REST services and modern web technologies.
- Develop scripts and tools for data loading, transformation, validation, quality assurance, and publishing processes.
- Maintain enterprise geodatabase structures and support organizational GIS standards.
- Manage domains, subtypes, topology rules, and data quality controls.
- Review and validate GIS data contributions to ensure compliance with established standards and best practices.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation related to system architecture, workflows, integrations, and operational procedures.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of enterprise GIS architecture and administration.
- Experience supporting enterprise GIS platforms, including web GIS environments and GIS server technologies.
- Proficiency with enterprise geodatabase administration and versioned editing workflows.
- Advanced Python scripting skills and experience with GIS automation libraries.
- Knowledge of web services, APIs, JSON, and enterprise integration methodologies.
- Understanding of database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with Windows server administration, virtualization, networking, and cloud infrastructure concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Geography, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Three or more years of professional experience administering enterprise GIS environments.
- Experience supporting enterprise geodatabases and versioned editing processes.
- Demonstrated experience developing GIS automations, integrations, or custom workflows using Python or related technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry-recognized GIS or enterprise platform certifications.
- Experience administering SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar database platforms.
- Experience supporting GIS operations within government, utilities, infrastructure, or asset management environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-hosted GIS deployments and modern GIS architecture.
- Experience with ETL platforms, workflow automation tools, or enterprise data integration technologies.
