Business System Analyst
DataStaff is in need of a Business Systems Analyst for one of our direct clients in the Richmond, VA area for a long-term contract opportunity.
*This position is hybrid, 2-3 days per week will be onsite
Responsibilities:
- Work as a key member of Design and Investment planning Team for IT projects.
- Support teams working in Agile (Sprint) as well as traditional Waterfall methodologies for Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Analyzing problems; documenting business processes; developing requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria; and managing requirements traceability and testing.
- Handle multiple projects, and remain flexible and productive, despite changing priorities and processes.
- Ongoing improvement and efficiency are a part of our culture and each team member is expected to proactively contribute to process improvements.
- Expected to handle small-scale projects or workstreams as a project coordinator.
- Work with the Project team members and business stakeholders to understand business processes and pain points.
- Develop expertise in the customers’ business applications
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis to identify system gaps and deficiencies that require a business, technical or blended approach for resolution
- Diagram current processes and proposed modifications using process flows, context diagrams and data flow diagrams
- Discover and document requirements and user stories with a focus on improving both business and technical processing.
- Translate business needs into detailed user stories, use cases, process flows, and other artifacts.
- Decompose requirements into Epics and Features and create clear and concise user stories that are easy to understand and implement by technical staff
- Strong Sense of ownership and accountability
- Utilize progressive elaboration; map stories to technical design specifications to be used by internal staff to develop the system modifications
- Identify and group related user stories into Themes, document the dependencies and associated business processes
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Assist Product Owner in maintaining the product backlog
- Create conceptual prototypes and mock-ups
- Create wireframes and prototypes.
- Propose alternative solutions that balance cost and benefit and adequately test a solution’s feasibility for business and technical compatibility.
- Collaborate with staff, vendors, consultants, and contractors as they are engaged on tasks to formulate, detail and test potential and implemented solutions.
- Perform Quality Analyst functions such as defining test objectives, test plans and test cases, and executing test cases (including regression testing)
- Coordinate and Facilitate User Acceptance Testing with Business and ensure Project Managers/Scrum Masters are informed of the progress
- Assist in validating system changes align with business requirements.
- Schedule, facilitate, and document meetings with cross-functional teams.
- Prepare agendas, capture key decisions and action items, and distribute meeting notes.
- Serve as the liaison between business users, project managers, developers, and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and issues.
Knowledge and Experience:
- The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of experience delivering business and systems analysis artifacts.
- Experience organizing and maintaining Product and Sprint backlogs
- Experience translating client and product strategy requirements into application requirements and user stories
- Proficient with defining acceptance criteria and managing acceptance process with development
- Experience with large, multi-module systems
- Experience with Application Lifecycle management (ALM)
- The candidate must have exceptional written and oral communications skills and have the proven ability to work well with a diverse set of peers and customers
- Experience in managing projects or workstreams independently.
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- MS Visio
- Microsoft Project
- Power BI / Tableau
- Oracle SQL/ SQL Server
- Experience using Team Foundation Server for agile software development and work item tracking.
- Ability to create low and high-fidelity wireframes to visually represent user flows and functionality
- Experience running sprints & ceremonies.
- Ability to manage small-scale projects or workstreams independently.
- Experience using tools such as MS Project, JIRA, Confluence or equivalent.
Required Skills:
- 10 Years - Extensive experience extracting requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, use cases
- 5 Years - Agile Business Analyst, strong understanding of scrum concepts and methodology
- 10 Years - Experience translating business and product requirements into application requirements and user stories
- 10 Years - Strong capability in documenting and maintain acceptance standards to guide testing and ensure deliverable quality
- 10 Years - Exceptional written and oral communications skills and have the proven ability to work well with a diverse set of peers and users
- 5 Years - Experience creating wire frames and prototypes (using Balsamiq or Figma)
- 10 Years - Expertise with Microsoft office products – Visio, word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Server
- 5 Years - Strong experience in writing complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation and reporting
- 5 Years - Experience building interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI Desktop.
- 5 Years - Experience in managing projects & Sprints as a Project Coordinator
Desired Skills:
- 5 Years - Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP)
- 5 Years - Certified Scrum Master
- 5 Years - Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or above)
