Job Description:
The primary responsibility of this role is to support systems using the Report Program Generator (RPG) Language within an IBM AS400 environment. Candidates must possess over 8 years of verifiable RPG programming experience on an AS400 system within the last 12 to 15 years. In this role, the Applications Development Analyst will engage in complex analysis, design, development, and maintenance of applications. The candidate will be responsible for developing system and program documentation, performing testing of modifications and enhancements to ensure system integrity, and debugging production problems using established system development processes and standards. Additionally, the analyst may be required to transfer knowledge and skills to junior-level programmers. The position operates under the direct supervision of a Team Lead and technical experts, who will provide all necessary technical direction. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively with other team members, manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment, and support existing applications by modifying and enhancing them as business needs evolve. The role also involves conducting in-depth analysis of service requests raised by clients, documenting new or changed operational procedures, and ensuring the accuracy of static data and configurations. The ability to respond flexibly and reprioritize work as situations change is essential for success in this position.
Responsibilities:
- Perform complex analysis, design, development, and maintenance using RPG and related tools.
- Develop system and program documentation.
- Test modifications and enhancements to ensure system integrity.
- Debug and resolve production problems using system development processes and standards.
- Transfer knowledge and skills to junior level programmers as needed.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts concerning testing and training.
- Analyze and resolve technical problems and software bugs.
- Maintain and enhance existing applications.
- Support existing applications, modifying/enhancing them as business needs change.
- Develop and document workarounds for functional issues.
- Troubleshoot real-time production issues.
- Support testing of enhancements and fixes.
- Recommend solutions and identify required program corrections.
- Contribute towards enterprise-wide metrics collection and participate in action plans.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of Service Requests raised by clients.
- Document new/changed operational procedures.
- Ensure static data/configuration/setups are accurate.
- Participate in peer review processes.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of verifiable RPG programming experience on an AS400 system in the last 12-15 years.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficiency in software languages: CL/400, RPG/400, ILE RPG, SQL RPGLE.
- Experience with Query 400, Aldon Change Management Software, and ImagePlus Operating systems.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions based on partial information and acceptable levels of risk.
- Competent to work at all phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities.
- Familiarity with Windows and MS Office Tools.
Preferred:
- Ability to develop new or enhancement programs based on technical specifications.
- Experience in multi-tasking and working on multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in performing all or part of the full life cycle development process with an emphasis on developing business applications.
- Ability to respond flexibly and reprioritize work as situations change.
