Network Engineer
DataStaff, Inc. is seeking a Network Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients in Graham, NC
*This position is hybrid; 3 days will be onsite (First month is 100% onsite)
The Network Engineer will be responsible for managing and securing the network infrastructure and cybersecurity initiatives. This position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals in network administration and cybersecurity to take on a more advanced role and contribute to the protection and integrity of the IT systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in networking and cybersecurity, along with demonstrated experience in managing and securing enterprise-level networks.
Responsibilities
- Manages and maintains the network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security.
- Monitors network traffic and security events, leveraging network monitoring tools and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions to detect and respond to potential threats or anomalies.
- Configures and manages network security technologies, such as intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), firewall policies, VPNs, and endpoint protection solutions, to protect against cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
- Conducts regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests of network infrastructure and systems, identifying and remediating security weaknesses and misconfigurations.
- Develops and maintains network documentation, including network diagrams, configuration guides, and standard operating procedures, to ensure accurate and up-to-date records for troubleshooting and compliance purposes.
- Leads cybersecurity incident response activities, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to investigate security incidents, contain threats and implement remediation measures.
- Assists with user awareness training and education initiatives related to cybersecurity best practices, helping to promote a culture of cybersecurity awareness and vigilance across the organization.
- Stays informed about emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in networking and cybersecurity, participating in training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Collaborates with IT team members and departmental stakeholders to assess network and cybersecurity needs, prioritize initiatives, and develop strategic plans to address security risks and compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field (Experience may be considered in lieu of degree).
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in network administration and cybersecurity, with hands-on experience managing enterprise-level networks and security technologies.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Security+, CISSP) preferred.
- Prior public sector experience is preferable.
- Prior network operations experience including configuring and managing network security devices, such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs and endpoint protection solutions.
- Firewalls support (Palo Preferred)
- Router/Switch – Cisco
- Wireless Experience
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience).
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with network monitoring tools and security information and event management (SIEM) solutions.
- Experience in conducting vulnerability assessments and penetration tests.
