*This is a remote position; however, the selected candidate must live in NC.
Job Description: This position supports the GIS Unit with a focus on GISU architecture of cloud-based systems, working under the guidance of the GISU Architect. The role assists in the design, deployment, and maintenance of the Enterprise GIS (EGIS) system to support major initiatives such as Project ATLAS, NCCRIS, and the LRS Editing System. The candidate will contribute to Azure-based GIS development efforts and support system reliability, scalability, and performance in a hybrid cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with deploying and managing GIS solutions in Microsoft Azure, including provisioning and configuring Virtual Machines, storage, and networking components.
Support the integration of Azure cloud services with on-premises systems in a hybrid environment.
Provide oversight, direction and contribution to the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for consistent and repeatable deployments using ARM templates and Bicep.
Help monitor and maintain Azure-hosted GIS systems using Azure Monitor, resource health tools, and diagnostics.
Perform updates, troubleshoot issues, and participate in routine maintenance of cloud-based and on-premises GIS components.
Collaborate with other IT teams to implement basic security configurations and identity management using role-based access control (RBAC).
Follow established deployment procedures and assist in documenting cloud infrastructure, configurations, and support processes.
Provide support to GIS users and team members during planning, testing, and rollout of GIS services or updates.
Skills & Qualifications:
Foundational understanding of Microsoft Azure services, including compute, storage, networking, and monitoring tools.
Experience with ARM templates and/or Bicep for infrastructure automation.
Familiarity with GIS platforms, such as Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, especially in cloud or hybrid deployments.
Experience with scripting or automation using PowerShell or Azure CLI.
Knowledge of network and computer system security protocols. Experience in vulnerability mitigation and remediation. Knowledge of SAML 2.0 and OAuth 2.0.
Understanding of cloud architecture concepts such as resource groups, virtual networks, and subscription management.
Interest in learning Azure governance, security, and identity features (e.g., Azure AD, RBAC).
Understanding of relational databases, solid understanding and experience of UML modeling
Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Ability to follow technical guidance and contribute in a team-oriented environment.
Required Skills:

Lead and contribute to the design and implementation of scalable data warehouse and business intelligence systems, applying principles and techniques of data architecture, integration, and analytics.
Requires experience with cloud-native data warehousing platforms, ETL development, and a strong understanding of enterprise data management best practices.
Required Skills:
